How do I ban an IP

Seems schoolkids found our chat and every day we have several. I think we are mentioned somewhere on their intranet and I'd like to ban this IP. How do I do that?

Right now it is not possible to block visitor based on IP directly in LiveAgent, but you can do it on your firewall if you use downloadable license of LiveAgent.

It would be possible to implement such feature to LiveAgent as customization if you would like to pay it. I expect it would take about 16-20 hours to implement such fraud protection module. We charge $40 per hour for such development work.

It's planned to be added this year, however at this moment it's too early to talk about actual release date since the development haven't started yet. Personally, I assume it could be ready in summer this year.

That'd be great. It's a pretty standard feature. The ability to block (by IP and/or email address) for a day/week/month/3/months/6 months/1 year/indefinitely would be perfect for us.

Here is a banning rule workaround for each customer (Sorry - not IP related):

Create a group "BLOCKED"(you can have multiple groups - Blocked 1 Week, Blocked 1 Month, Blocked FULL).

When the offender writes, change him to the relevant group.

Go to RULES and create:
When ticket status created
if customer group is BLOCKED add or if versions if needed)
delete ticket/mark as resolved//mark as spam (whichever works for you!).

You can then run weekly/monthly filters based on Customer Group and perform Mass Action/Change Requester's Group to unblock them (if unblocking is an option for you).

Would love feedback and augmentation of this idea.!

You can see the currently banned IPs in the Configuration->Protection>Banned IPs section.
When you want to "cancel" currently active ban, use 'expire' button.
